FAQs

Do parents need to be present during therapy?

Parents and caregivers play a large role in the overall success of speech therapy and language interventions. With the right guidance, parents can provide a continuum of care at home - giving kids the best chance to access the benefits speech therapy offers. So, there are plenty of benefits to parents and caregivers accompanying your child to our speech therapy sessions.

How long is each speech therapy session?

Sessions may run for 30, 45, or 60 minutes (or longer as needed) - depending on your needs and your schedule.

How do I pay?

Payment is required at the end of each session unless arrangements are made with the clinician or third-party billing is involved. Speech-Teach accepts e-transfers, visa, cheques, and cash.  Speech Teach services are covered by Extended Benefits and other agencies.

Do I need a referral?

No, you don’t need a referral to make an appointment.

Do you make home visits?

Yes, but you need to be clear when you’re scheduling your appointment that you want a home visit. I charge for my mileage and travel time too.

Do you offer online appointments?

Yes, I offer all individual and group speech therapy sessions online. I’ve been working with schools and my clients throughout the pandemic.

Can you see my child at day care, preschool, or at their school?

I’m more than happy to visit your child at their education centre and to work with their team to create positive learning environments. I charge for my mileage and travel time.

Do you work within teams (with Behaviour Consultants, Occupational Therapists, etc)?

Yes, gladly. I value collaboration with teams made up of teachers, health professionals, and family units.

How long does it take for speech therapy to work?

This depends on so many factors. Some speech disorders show up in childhood and improve over time. Others come about as a result of an accident and will require ongoing treatment. Others still are due to physical and/or developmental issues and require individual assessment to determine the best course of action.. No matter how (or when) your disorder starts, early intervention is most effective. Seek treatment as early as possible!
