Child Language Delay

Child languaje delayLanguage is the ability to understand and communicate meaningful messages to others through spoken language, sign language, gestures, facial expressions, etc. It includes the ability to combine words into sentences, questions, statements and to use “grammatical rules correctly, such as ‘learning  that ‘s’ at the end of a word means “more than one” – dogs.  Language also involves understanding and using the meaning of words. For example “dog” is an animal, with four legs, furry, barks and chases cats. It is also important to know how to use language in daily life ( social rules ) such as eye contact, taking speaking turns in groups). As each child grows and matures, they learn skills in all of these areas of language. A language delay/disorder/difficulty may affect one or many of these areas.
